Finished reading: Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green 📚

Overall I enjoyed this book. It had all the ingredients to a good story and it is written really well. Easy to follow and a nice flow. I enjoyed the first half of the book the most where the author does a great job highlighting the massive impact the disease has had historically and all the little things we experience today which was caused by people throughout history trying to avoid getting the disease.

I also liked how he focused on a patient who contracted TB and was working through the treatments with a great attitude. Having a persona to focus on was a great way to bring the topic to life and highlight what people go through when working through the treatments.

I would have assumed no one in the US was dying of TB in the current day, but over 500 people a year do. And then to think that over 1.3 million people worldwide die of the disease every year was shocking. There was a lot to learn in this book about a devastating disease that you do not hear much about.

My only dig on the book is how the author seemed to choose the large pharmaceutical companies as the antagonist. I am no Pharma fan boy, but I sense there is more nuance and larger factors at play that those in poor countries cannot get the right diagnosis, treatment and medication. As with most issues in the world, if the solution was simple it would be solved.
